PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Sunday has asked the party cadre to introspect and find out the reason for the party’s poor performance in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
“The party cadre should introspect why the BJP tally came down from 21 to 13 during the recent Goa State Assembly Elections. We should try and understand what really went wrong but we should be thankful for our central leadership which stood by us and supported after the elections results and it was because of this the party was able to form the government in State,” Parrikar said while addressing the public gathering in which he along with BJP National president Amit Shah were felicitated
Parrikar said that might be the people expected more work than what we did in the last tenure and because of that the BJP was not able to get majority but now we shall prove that our government is performance oriented.
“I have decided to talk less and work more. The people will see what we have done and they will judge us based on the performance. May be because of the position that I held in the Centre or even my experience for that matter, I have decided to talk less and do more,” said Parrikar
Further taking a dig at the Congress leader Digvijay Singh, Parrikar said, “We were lucky enough that the leader which Congress sent to Goa was acting like a tourist more rather than forming the government after the results. The Congress is on the verge of extinction and can be called as a rare species.”
Parrikar informed that parties and legislators only supported the BJP in forming the government other than the Congress as they wanted stability in Goa.
“We have proved that we can run a stable government and that the BJP will never let down its coalition partners who have shown trust in us and helped us form the government,” Parrikar added
Meanwhile, Parrikar admitted that its government during the last tenure could not do anything on its policy for zero-tolerance towards corruption because of major issues.
“I myself had assured the people of Goa that there will be zero tolerance towards corruption but soon after 2012 issues started coming up such as mining and the government had to completely divert on to it. The Congress government at the Centre that time is responsible for maddening the condition but it was only in 2014 when Modi came to power and I could take a fresh breath,” he added.
