Chief Minister Digambar Kamat has said the Home Department as well as the Law Department will examine the charge sheet filed by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) before any decision is taken to ban Sanathan Saunstha in the state.
When his attention was drawn to the charge sheet filed by the NIA which has indicted the members of the Sanathan Sausthan to trigger serial blasts in Margao,
Kamat told Herald that the law department will examine and study the charge sheet in detail and submit a detailed report to the government for action.
“The question of banning Sanathan Saustha will be taken after taking into account the legal issues. After all, the ban should stand in the court of law”, he added. There has been a clamour for imposing a ban on Sanathan Saunstha even amongst the Cabinet colleages of the Chief Minister.
THIRTY PAGES CHARGESHEET: The chargesheet filed by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) contains 30 pages, but the records attached to the chargesheet runs into more than 4000 pages.
The NIA has cited over 250 witnesses in support of its case. NIA, Superintendent of Police, S Vijayan said the witnesses hails from not only Goa but across the country.
He said the two deceased accused Malgonda Patil and Yogesh Naik, though dead while carrying the IEDs on a scooter in Margao, have been named in the chargesheet, adding that the charge against them will be abated subsequently.
Special Judicial Magistrate, S B Faria told newsmen that investigations into the case would continue to nab the absconding accused and take the probe to the logical conclusion.
He said the NIA had to file the charge sheet on Monday due to circumstances that the 180 days custody of the accused was getting expired, adding that the NIA would continue to investigate the case. Sources in the know said the four accused in custody would have been released on bail if the NIA had failed to file the charge sheet in the court.
