John asks Chief Minister to show NOC granted by Cong to Karnataka

PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes has asked Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to make public the No Objection Certificate (NOC) which the latter had alleged was granted to the Karnataka government by Congress to go ahead with the Mhadei water diversion project.
“He (Parrikar) should come out with the NOC… He is fooling the people of Goa…” Fernandes said during a press conference held at the Congress House on Monday.
Asking the CM to stop lying, the party chief claimed it was in fact the then Congress government that moved the Supreme Court and the Mhadei Water Disputes Tribunal against the neighbouring state’s attempts to divert the water to Malprabha basin.
In an interim order last week, the tribunal directed Karnataka government to ensure there is no automatic diversion of water from Mhadei basin to Malprabha river. The order also covered directives for Maharashtra government to form a three-member monitoring team of superintending engineers from the three states to monitor the works by Karnataka.
The Karnataka Niravari Nigam is however continuing the work on the project in violation of the order.
