He was replying on the calling attention motion tabled by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal, Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai and Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte.
The MLAs said there was fear and anxiety in the minds of students who have undertaken the M-Tech course at Goa University and who wish to continue the course that they will be deprived of their career prospects as Goa University wants to discontinue this course after successful implementation for last three years.
“In view of the stipulations of relevant regulatory bodies like AICTE, UGC etc, it not be advisable to continue the course,” Parsekar said.
Further, the chief minister said, “The Academic Council of Goa University deliberated the whole issue in its meeting held on December 18 and decided to suspend further intake of students at the 1st year MTech Computer programme until regulatory issues noted by the Academic Council are resolved.” He added that the matter is being considered by the University’s Executive Council for taking a further decision.
However, Sardesai argued that students should not be made to suffer due to the fault of Goa University and the government must intervene.
Khaunte said the issue is of utmost importance and the government has done nothing to shrug off the students’ fears.
The CM replied saying Goa University is an autonomous body and the government would not dictate terms. He added “The students should not fear as nothing will happen to them as the BTech courses of GU are recognized all over.”
