PORVORIM: Allegations and counter allegations flew during the first few minutes of the Assembly session on Friday, when Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar slammed Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai for targeting former chief minister Manohar Parrikar in the House, with the later countering the attack by calling Parsekar a ‘dictator’.
As the session commenced on the last day of the Assembly, Parsekar and Sardesai had a verbal spat on the illegal creation of the Handicrafts, Textile and Coir department that has seen five directors so far. The question raised during the session on Thursday, was postponed for a reply on Friday.
“The decision to have a separate department was taken way back in April 2013. It is not a new decision. He (Sardesai) is trying to target the government on non-important issues,” Parsekar said, to which the MLA replied saying these non-important issues have more importance as they are marred with corruption.
Referring to Sardesai’s allegation against Parrikar during the session, the chief minister said, “For last four days, I am watching that my predecessor Manoharbab is being targeted by this man… he is being accused… it is not right to target him when he is not part of the assembly. The former chief minister was targeted for bifurcating the department without following the procedure,” he added.
Unhappy with the allegation, Sardesai accused Parsekar of being a dictator. “Chief Minister needs to improve his knowledge… he is acting like a dictator,” he commented.
The question remained unanswered till the end.
