PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, Governor Mridula Sinha and Archbishop of Goa and Daman Filipe Neri Ferrao have extended their heartiest greetings to Goan Muslim community, on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Chief Minister in his message said, “The auspicious festival of Eid-ul-Fitr which is being celebrated particularly by the Muslim brethren marks the end of Ramadan fasting.”
“May this festival bring in greater joy and happiness coupled with consolidation of the bonds of unity, fraternity and brotherhood,” said Dr Pramod.
Governor in her message said that gratitude and service to humanity are the fundamental values that Islam inculcates in every person. The Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated to express gratitude to the almighty enabling the faithful to observe fast for a month with strict self-discipline and utmost devotion. Ramadan is not only about refraining from food and drink, but it is also about abstaining from evil thoughts, words, and actions.
“It creates an atmosphere where one is encouraged and supported to become a better person. In a diverse country like ours, it is essential for all of us to promote and maintain inter-religious understanding and co-existence among the different sections of society.”
Archbishop Filipe Neri in his address said, “We unite ourselves to our Muslim brothers and sisters on this festive occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, as they pray for God’s forgiveness, mercy, peace and blessings for all living beings across the world and specially our country. We extend our hands in solidarity with them, to promote genuine justice, live in friendship with God, the source of all human relationship with others and with the whole creation. Last, but not the least, we pray to God that this celebration may spread joy to all, especially to the less fortunate and needy. Eid Mubarak!”
