CM leads Yoga Day exercises

PANJIM/VASCO: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar led the State at the 3rd International Yoga Day at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim.

PANJIM/VASCO:  Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar led the State at the 3rd International Yoga Day at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Stadium in Bambolim.
Organised by Directorate of Health Services (DHS) and Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs (DSYA), around 1000 students and officials of various departments and senior bureaucrats attended the session on yoga. Various yoga asanas (yoga poses) and pranayam were performed under the guidance of Chandrika Padgaonkar and group.
In his address Parrikar stated that yoga has gained immense recognition since the day it has been universally accepted and observed.
Highlighting the importance of performing yoga on a daily basis, he said, “Today, a person is prone to stress and many such issues and yoga can be the best therapy to cure it, hence one must practice yoga throughout one’s life. Harmony, peace and wealth, all can be attained by practicing yoga.”
He said that yoga asanas have been a part of the routine lifestyle earlier and therefore it served as a facilitator for good health.
Brimming with excitement and energy, thousands of people including school students, central government agencies, social clubs and other citizens group from Mormugao taluka participated whole heartedly in the International Day of Yoga on Wednesday.
At Goa Naval Area, all naval personnel including families participated in the Yoga camps and workouts that were organised at various places under the Goa Naval Area to cater for the entire naval community.
Personnel from units, ships and establishments at Goa Naval Area undertook yoga under the watchful eyes of trained Yoga instructors and used this opportunity to learn the skill and understand its benefits. A Yoga Awareness Cycle Rally was organised from MO (Goa) to Sada by Naval Air Craft Yard (Goa). The participants were wearing yoga awareness T-shirts. The Indian Navy, has, over the years, assimilated yoga into their physical fitness regimen. Sports, adventure and physical fitness are part of the curriculum for Naval Personnel in line with the maxim “a healthy mind in a healthy body”.
A similar program was observed by CISF staff attached to Dabolim Airport, at Mormugao Port, at Goa Shipyard Limited and at different schools in Mormugao taluka besides at Vasco police station.
Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha took part in the Yoga program organised by the Mahila Group at Mangueshi Tempe, Vollant Cortalim along with other BJP workers including large number of women. 
Meanwhile, Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, St Inez, observed International Yoga Day. Ashok Menon, Director, Fire and Emergency Services was the chief guest for the function. Shradha Parab alongwith her team and Dr Sitakant Ganekar conducted yoga classes on the occasion and staff of Fire & Emergency Services showed keen interest in yoga.
