PANJIM: The State Government will soon set up a Common Staff Selection Commission to recruit Class ‘C’ and ‘D’ category employees in various government departments.
Speaking at the 54th anniversary function of Goa’s Liberation on Saturday, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said a candidate’s selection would be based on interviews, as written tests for the category are being done away with. “It will reduce frustration among youth who have appeared for various interviews and failed to get through. The setting up of the commission will save time and money,” he stated.
The commission will facilitate filling up the vacancies at one time, Parsekar added. “There are instances wherein to fill up two vacant posts, a department receives thousands of applications as a result candidates who aspire to get a government job unnecessarily waste their valuable time. The commission will help maintain transparency in the selection process,” he said.
The CM also said that an additional 293 services will be added to the existing 497 time bound delivery services in the State.
Parsekar said the crime rate has reduced by 34 percent whereas crime detection has gone up by 17 percent. “The efforts of government to maintain law and order have finally given positive results,” he said, expressing concern over fatal accidents involving youngsters.
As per records, on an average, 300 fatal accidents occur annually of which 70-75 percent victims are between the age of 18 and 25 years. To minimize accidents, the government has introduced ‘little policing’ concept under which 1200 students have been enrolled so far.
SPs Karthik Kashyap and Shekar Prabhu Dessai, and Head Constable Atchut Dessai, were awarded the CM’s Gold Medal for meritorious services, while CM’s Fire Service Medal was awarded to fore officials Sakharam Pednekar and Narayan Takkar.
