CM Sawant says homes on Comunidade land built with community consent, urges legalisation

Goa Chief Minister Sawant clarified that homes constructed on Comunidade land are developed with the consent of the local community rather than formal government approval. He emphasised that instead of approaching the courts, Comunidades should take proactive steps to help legalise these houses. The government is prepared to play its part by collecting compensation from property owners, ensuring that due processes are followed without penalising residents. Sawant reassured that the state administration has no intention of demolishing anyone’s home, underlining a balanced approach that respects both community rights and individual property interests. By encouraging collaboration between property owners, Comunidades, and the government, the Chief Minister believes a legal framework can be established that benefits all parties. He urged the Comunidades to work constructively in regularising these houses, highlighting the government’s readiness to facilitate the process and provide necessary support to ensure residents’ security and peace of mind.
