PANJIM: Goa being a coastal State is more vulnerable to crimes like smuggling from sea and other routes, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday sought assistance from the Centre to procure state-of-the-art equipment for coastal patrol, mobile forensic labs and cyber labs in the State.
Sawant, who attended the 25th Western Zonal Council meeting at Diu, stated that he has also sought assistance from the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding verification of the marine fishermen.
“I have requested the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to keep the portal open to upload the details of additional fishermen over and above 11,000 fishermen in the next fishing season who could be issued QR enabled PVC Aadhaar Cards.”
Sawant assured the Council that the banking facility will be made available within five-km of villages by impressing upon the co-operative banks in the State.
The Chief Minister informed the Council that Swayampruna Goa 2.0 has been launched in Goa and that it will enhance employment generation, skill development, encourage/boost new enterprises and startups in the State.
The Chief Minister earlier thanked the Council for holding the 24th meeting in Goa and also thanked the Union government for the support extended for the development of the State.
