Ponda: The Matruchaya, the home for orphans, homeless and destitute children operating from Dhavali since 1976 has decided to lay foundation stone for its new  Balika (girls)  Kalyan Ashram, at Talaulim,  at the hands of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, on January 9, at 2.30 pm.

This was stated by Matruchaya Dhavali Working Committee President Subash Bhosle along with Anup Keni, Nilima Kamath, Sagar Sakordekar, the president of Balika Kalyan Ashram, at Talaulim.  Keni spoke about how the need to house more girls at Matruchaya, Dhavali is growing. Providing decent facilities for about 75 girls was not possible in the current building which is more than 30 years old. During the past decades, the trust worked for the welfare of the orphanage.

“The Matruchaya got support of the Goans, donors and corporate social responsibility (CSR) of various companies. The trust hence started towards expansion of the premises. Towards this goal, the trust has acquired around 4,500 sqmts of land at Talaulim,” Keni added.

“We expect the project would be completed within 24 months and the girls thereafter from the Matruchaya building at Dhavali would be shifted to this new spacious home at Talaulim,” he said.
