Margao: Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Wednesday unilaterally condemned the use of brutal police force on the tribal population particularly women folk at Shel-Melauli.

Briefing media persons GFP general secretary Mohandas Lolienkar said the police force was responsible for the ruckus at Melauli and alleged that the peaceful people erupted with anger when a Police Inspector brutally kicked an elderly lady on her chest. “That is when the people protested and such brutality cannot be tolerated,” he said.
He demanded the immediate dismissal from service of the concerned police officer and demanded a judicial enquiry into the role played by other government servants including mamlatdar and deputy collector present at Melauli.
“I remember in the 80s there were many agitations and Pratapsing Rane never used such brutality but always took a step back to discuss matters to solve the problem and it is surprising how his son Vishwajit Rane is behaving today in just trying to suppress the voice of the people,” he said.
He said the people from that area oppose the IIT project because they do not trust the government and cannot expect anything good to come from the government and suggested that the government should take everybody in confidence and move forward instead of adopting an attitude of arrogance.
Party vice president Durgadas Kamat accused the Chief Minister of “reeling” under a cocktail of ganja and arrogance and alleged that his body language has changed since the Zilla Panchayat elections were conducted and pointed out that one can only see an arrogant and egoistic person and not a public servant in him.
“It is indeed sad that while the common man gets lathis from the present government druglords and those involved in its trade get appointments with the chief minister,” charged Durgadas, while asking the CM to learn from his party chief how to have development with consent.
“In Fatorda there has been so much development without any trouble because Vijai Sardessai has always adopted the policy of development with consent and consulted all concerned and affected people while taking up any project,” he said.
