MAPUSA: Ports Minister Michael Lobo has said that the intervention of the chief minister is required in tourism industry to generate more revenue.
He said that the tourism industry generates good revenue, and it can generate more. “The tourism department will take all steps to generate revenue, but still the intervention of the chief minister is required for generating more revenue for the State,” he said.
Admitting that resumption of mining would bring revenue to the State, Lobo said, “The State is borrowing money since the time mining was banned in 2012, and these loans are burdening the government, whose repayment has started only now.”
“These loans were taken for infrastructure, but now the borrowing of money is a matter of concern. All the MLAs are putting pressure on State government and Central governments to resume legal mining, as it will bring revenue to the State,” Lobo said.
“The State will follow the directions of the Supreme Court. Mining has to start slowly. The Central government will be kind enough to issue environmental clearance for mining,” the minister informed.
