CUNCOLIM: The Cuncolim Municipal Council has stopped door-to-door garbage collection from last week due to shortage of workers.
Sources from the CMC told Herald that many workers are not attending duty due to fear of COVID infection. Two drivers are infected with COVID while four municipal drivers which were deputed to Collectorate Office for election duty were not relieved from their duty.

Due to less manpower, the council is not in position to continue with house-to-house garbage collection which has disrupted garbage collection in all 14 wards of the municipal council.
Further, the sources informed that with limited workers, the council is collecting garbage from the Cuncolim market area and other places where garbage is dumped in the open. The garbage will be picked up after all the workers and drivers resume work. For time being, the municipality has appealed to the citizens to dispose the wet garbage at their respective houses.
Meanwhile, some citizens are throwing garbage in the open. Dumping garbage in the open has spread dirt in some places and the litter has made some areas ugly.
