MARGAO: “We have succeeded in getting the heap of garbage at Cuncolim reduced and have now begun our second episode on zero tolerance to plastics,” say Cuncolim Municipal Council members.
The conuncillors were addressing a press conference organised to announce the Swachh Bharat public awareness programme. A talk on solid waste management and zero tolerance to plastic for the students and general public was held inside the garbage and waste treatment plant campus.
A short address on garbage management in Cuncolim Municipal area by the director of the newly appointed agency Sampurna Earth environment solutions was delivered.
“This kind of function is happening for the first time in any garbage treatment plant in Goa. Several medicinal plants have been planted at the premises,” said Chairperson Polita Carneiro.
“Ever since the Sampurna Earth agency has taken over the plant, the garbage treatment and the door-to-door garbage collection have been in proper sync. Today the heaps of garbage at Cuncolim garbage treatment plant have been cleared by means of segregation,” said vice chairperson Shashank Desai.
“The council is following up on the NIT project. The central PWD is going to take up works of the compound wall around acquired land for NIT project,” said former vice chairperson Mario Moraes.
