ANJUNA: The Anjuna Talathi, who works under the Deputy Collector has asked for police protection to carry out site inspection of illegal hill cutting and development which was undergoing till last week in Comunidade land of Anjuna village.
Around 2000 sq mts of hill in Small Vagator was allegedly destroyed for the access road and further construction of a suspected nightclub in Anjuna village and in this regard, a DJ cum activist, Gambino Drago had lodged a complaint with authorities including Deputy Collector Bardez l, Mamlatdar Bardez, Forest Conservator, Comunidade, TCP and local Anjuna-Caisua Village Panchayat for immediate action.
Incidentally, the Comunidade and the Panchayat have admitted and stated officially that the rampant hill cutting and levelling of the ground in Little Vagator, without any permission, is illegal.
The illegal third party, Mangaldas Govekar purportedly related to a powerful operator connected to the State Excise Department, even though he admitted that he has no permission to carry out any construction work.
Deputy collector Bardez had directed Talathi to inspect the site soon after the complaint was filed. However, Anjuna Talathi Gauresh Naik said, “Deputy Collector had directed me to inspect the site and report the same however since the site was locked I have asked for police protection to lock open and further conduct the inspection. I have not yet received any response to the same however expect it in a day or so.”
The Anjuna Village Panchayat has scheduled their body meeting on November 18, eleven days after the complaint was filed.
Acting on the same, the panchayat then issued a stop work order and conducted the inspection.
