MARGAO: The polluted Colva creek has come under the scanner of the Goa State Pollution Control Board.
Following a damning report submitted by a high-level expert committee, a 17-member GSPCB team headed by Board Chairman Jose Manuel Noronha descended on Colva on Wednesday morning and inspected around 20 hotels and restaurants on sewage and waste water discharge into the Creek.
The team collected water samples from the creek as well as from each of the 20 establishments inspected by the Board. In two cases, though the establishments had set up the effluent treatment plants, they were not found in working condition. “We have given the water samples for testing in our lab. No sooner, we receive the reports, action will be initiated against the erring hotels and restaurants violating pollution control norms,” Noronha told Herald.
Water samples collected from four points, including the area in front of the Colva Residency and under the bridge, showed presence of faecal coliform and E.Coli.
