“We have no power since Noon and will be out of power till Friday morning. Why? Because an electric pole is broken and resting on a coconut tree for the last 3 weeks and after repeated complaints the electricity department junior engineer tells us the government doesn’t have poles,” said Colva resident David Emeliano Aguiar.
This is not the first time the village and neighbouring villages of Seraulim, Benaulim and Sernabatim have been without power for long periods of time stretching even throughout a day.
The Benaulim MLA said that he had informed the electricity department repeatedly about the issue and that even as he was given technical reasons after reasons, at the end of the day the people were frustrated and the situation was unbearable with the rains where residents shut their windows.
The Electricity department officials stated that there is a shortage of 19 electric poles for Colva.
