The panchayat gram sabha had earlier resolved to ban the movement of sand-transport trucks during peak school hours – from 7 to 8 am and from 12.30 to 2.30 pm.
Ponda police rushed to the site to maintain law and order. They issued challans to five trucks for illegal sand transportation and also released the trucks seized by the locals, much to the latter’s surprise.
The locals demanded strict action against the truck drivers and informed that illegal sand extraction was going on along the Savoi Verem-Khandola river.
