The Colva gram sabha on Sunday has told the panchayat body to submit a memorandum to Tourism Minister Nilkhant Harlankar demanding illumination of the village beach belt Sernabatim-Colva-Gandaulim.
At the meeting held on Sunday, gram sabha members further demanded that the Panchayat take up with the Tourism Minister to construction of retaining wall and steps wherever required along the beach stretch.
Acting Sarpanch Anthony alias Mama Cardozo said the gram sabha deliberated on the sewage and garbage disposal problems plaguing the village. After discussions, it was resolved to propose to the government to sanction Rs 35 lakh organic waste composting machine for treatment of the waste generated in the village. He said the proposed composting machine has a capacity to 3000 kg of organic waste.
The acting sarpanch further said that the consultant drafted by the Goa Sewerage Corporation had recently approached the panchayat to conduct a survey of the village to tackle the sewage disposal.
He said that the Tourism Department has already agreed to provide land for the purpose of waste disposal in the village.
Meanwhile, the gram sabha meeting discussed the status of the football ground and panchayat projects mooted by the body.
The acting sarpanch said the gram sabha members demanded that the panchayat expedite the process vis-à-vis the two projects by doing the follow up with the concerned departments, including the Water Resources and Town and Country Planning departments.
