Colva VP axe to fall on 196 structures
HERALD REPORTER
MARGAO, JAN 20
In one of the biggest exercise in recent times, the Colva village Panchayat has issued demolition notices on as many as 196 structures allegedly falling within the CRZ regulations.
The owners of these structures, namely traditional fishermen and small business enterprises, have been given a deadline of 15 days to raze down the structures before the Panchayat steps in and take action.
Acting Colva Sarpanch, Anthony Fernandes said the village Panchayat has only done its job of issuing notices as the structures have come under the scanner of the High Court.
The situation has put the Panchayat in a tight spot as action against the structures has brought the body in bad books with the local residents, while any non-action may attract contempt of court.
Panchayat sources say the owners of the structures have the option to approach the courts and obtain stay against the demolition.
The Benaulim Panchayat had on Monday resolved to issue demolition notices to all the structures falling within the CRZ regulation.
