Colvale Police caught napping as fake call centre flourished in their ‘backyard’

O Heraldo ground report suggests that lease agreement was signed with the owner in Aug 2022, but Crime Branch maintains that the centre has been operating since the last two months; four-day judicial remand for 33 accused

PANJIM: With the Crime Branch managing to raid and stop the operations of a fake Amazon Customer Care Call Centre, accused of cheating USA nationals on basis of a tip off, the Colvale Police have been caught napping as the illegal establishment flourished in their jurisdiction.

O Heraldo ground report suggests that the agreement of lease was signed with the owner in August 2022, but the Crime Branch maintains that the call centre has been operating since the last two months.

The Crime Branch has managed to secure four days judicial remand for the 33 accused persons, who have been arrested in the fake customer care call centre case. However, the task to track the money trail of the racket has just commenced.

The Crime Branch initiating the action against the fake call centre has raised many an eyebrow. The question as to why the Colvale Police Station wasn’t in the know regarding the illegal activities is doing the round in the Police Department circles.

When asked to shed light on this, Crime Branch PI Nitin Halarnkar, who is the investigating officer in the case said, “We received information regarding the call centre in operation and went ahead on that basis. We are yet to get details on the number of victims.”
