COLVALE: A day after 33 persons were arrested by the Crime Branch for operating a fake Amazon Customer Care Call Centre at Colvale and for cheating USA nationals, O Heraldo team on Wednesday, during its visit to the site to ascertain the ground reality, learnt that centre was functioning for over seven months and in between it was closed for about 4 weeks.
The O Heraldo visit further revealed that no police verification was done.
In connection with the case, O Heraldo also met Colvale PI who said, “This case is with the Crime Branch.”
According to police sources, it seems the owner of the said premise failed to visit the police station for any verification.
When O Heraldo contacted Tarak Arolkar, he said, “Yes I gave the premise on rent, but was not aware of the illegalities going on. It is good that the police have acted and I demand strict action.”
When asked about the agreement, Arolkar said, “An agreement was made with the main accused in August 2022, since then they have been running the business. I wasn’t aware of these illegalities.”
When questioned on police verification, he replied in the negative, but said that the verification has to be done by the tenant.
When the O Heraldo team spoke to the residents in the locality, they said the call centre had been operating since August 2022, with nearly 40 to 45 employees, including few women.
