MARGAO: Three years after work commenced on the upgradation of the ESI hospital at Margao at a cost of Rs 85 crore, work is finally nearing completion, but issues such as power connection and recruitment of medical officers has come to haunt the authorities.
This became evident during the inspection of the hospital premises by Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik on Monday along with senior ESI officials. While nearly 98 per cent of the work is complete, power connection and testing of equipment is expected to take another four months, the MP was informed.
Naik later told the media that since the recruitment has to be done by the UPSC, he would immediately hold a meeting of officials concerned in Delhi to ensure that all recruitments are done at the earliest. The Rajya Sabha MP has also promised an ambulance, besides a hearse van from his MPLAD scheme to the ESI hospital, while also promising to remove all hurdles coming in the way of the early commissioning of the Rs 85-crore hospital.
He discussed with the ESI officials on the commissioning of the hospital before the Lok Sabha election code of conduct comes into force.
Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha MP has said that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is taking credit for the decision of the Reserve Bank of India to grant concessions for stakeholders engaged in the mining industry. “I had raised the issue of loans with the Finance Minister at the consultative meeting in Delhi, wherein it was decided to ask the RBI to issue the concession. But the CM has taken credit for the same,” he added.
