CANACONA: As fate would have it, Sadolxecars and well-known pals, Menino Barretto and Rocky Barretto, seem to have been unfortunately led to the place where a reckless driver brought an overloaded truck on them, killing them instantly at about 11.35 am on Monday.
According to sources, Menino and Rocky, both residents of Muthal-Sadolxem, had left on an important errand to Margao after one of them attended a morning church service.
Incidentally, Menino after having worked in the UK for some years was down for considerable time now and had recently built a house at Rajbag-Tarir, where he was residing with his wife.
Rocky, known for his shuffling between three places (Dubai, his workplace Mumbai, where his immediate family ~ wife and son ~ temporarily resides and his home at Muthal-Sadolxem), was recently down on vacation. He had reportedly come down to Goa two-three days ago.
After attending mass at Sadolxem church, Rocky is learnt to have picked up his friend Menino from his new residence and went to Margao to attend some urgent matter.
Sources informed that at about 10.30 am, Rocky’s niece called up her uncle on a mobile phone requesting him to buy a flower-bearing plant from Margao. But fate had other plans. Rocky and Menino had already reached Navelim by then and the former told her niece that he would bring her a sapling, a better one, the next time he visits Margao.
As the duo reached the place, unknown to them, a truck fell on their vehicle crushing them completely.
Friends and relatives, who are shocked, questioned would they have been alive if they had decided to turn back to buy the sapling for Rocky’s niece. It is learnt that till late evening, Rocky’s wife and son, who are in Mumbai, were not informed about the tragic accident. Efforts were being made to break the news through some other close contacts, also living in Mumbai.
