Concerns mount as stray dog menace grows at Calangute Beach; locals demand action

MAPUSA: Tourists and locals, who visit Calangute beach, have expressed fear over the rise in the number of stray dogs, who roam the shores in search of food. There have been incidents where the dogs have followed and sometimes attacked visitors to the beach. Now apart from unauthorised vendors, the visitors also has to face the menace of stray dogs.

“Recently, a tourist was bitten by a stray dog. The Tourism department and officials concerned need to take steps to control the stray dog menace. Many visitors feed the dogs, which is why they follow all the tourists in search of the same,” a local recounted.
