Concrete mixer rams into building at Char Rasta
HERALD CORRESPONDENT
CANACONA, MARCH 28
A concrete mixer driver had a lucky escape, after the mixer rammed into a building at Char Rasta, Canacona, on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred when the concrete mixer (GA-01-T-7441), which was proceeding from Nessai-Salcete, on reaching Char Rasta could not negotiate the sharp turn to proceed towards Palolem and instead rammed into the oldest building. However, no damage was reported to the building’s slab.
According to mixer’s driver Rahul Shinde, the vehicle brakes suddenly failed and he could not control the vehicle before it went onto hit building’s slab.
Luckily being a Sunday, there was no movement of people at the site, as on any working days, hordes of other vehicles are parked at the side of the building which houses several shops. Besides, commuters also prefer to wait for public transportation going to Palolem, Agonda and Khola at the same place, where mixer hit the building.
The mixer was reportedly proceeding towards construction site nearby Palolem. The vehicle was finally removed after its brakes were repaired, informed sources.
