Conduct inquiry into highway work: Pernem locals to govt

PERNEM: The locals from Ugvem, Tamboxem and Porascadem on Tuesday urged the government to conduct an inquiry into the pathetic and bad quality highway development work which is being carried out by MVR Company.
The locals alleged that low quality material and bad quality work is being carried out while wasting tax payers’ money.
Deputy Sarpanch of Tamboxem-Ugvem-Mopa Village Panchayat Subodh Mahale claimed that panchayat had passed a resolution stating that bad quality work is being carried out in name of development of highway project. “The government is answerable to the people whether it is working for the contractors or for the people. There is no supervision on the work which is presently being carried by the MVR Company. There are no supervisors, who would check whether the highway development work going on, is as per the rules, whether proper process is being followed or not.”

The road being a highway, people from others States enter into the state but due to absence of signboards, diversion boards many minor accidents takes place during the night. The roads are full of potholes which are difficult to identify in the dark and these potholes are leading to accidents.
“The retaining wall near the railway bridge at Amere was collapsed two months back, however, till now no action is taken. No barricades or signboard are put up here. The bridge at Ugvem have developed crack and several times the concern JE, AE were informed, however, the authorities have turned a blind eye putting people’s life at risk,” locals claimed.
