VASCO: Stating that the Goa needs a mass public transport system, Director of Transport, Rajan Satardekar, revealed that the ‘multi-modal transport plan’ is in its final stage and that it will offer connectivity to all villages and towns.
He added that its report is likely to be ready by the end of September. Satardekar, who was speaking at the Road Safety Week programme held in Vasco, said his department had taken up initiatives such as eye-checkups, drawing competitions, street plays etc in order to create awareness among the younger generation.

Prevention is better than cure is the motto of the road safety week.
At the event, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson NandadeepRaut spoke about the people’s demand to have better roads in order to prevent road accidents. He also called on the authorities to take strict action against drinking and driving. He further urged authorities to create awareness in schools on road safety.
Roland Martins of GOACAN pointed out that the road safety week is completing ten years. “We need to understand that these events are to create awareness among people,” he said while adding that people need to understand that following road safety is their duty as a responsible citizen.
He also called on Vasco to lead the way in road safety.
