Conduct public hearing on draft plan taluka wise: Mandrem VP to GCZMA

PERNEM: Mandrem Village Panchayat has resolved to write to Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) requesting it to conduct public hearings on draft of Coastal Zone Management Plan in each taluka differently.
During a special gram sabha conducted by Mandrem Village Panchayat to discuss the coastal management plan, initially, the sarpanch informed the villagers that the panchayat has received a plan and map of the Coastal Zone Plan 2011, which the villagers have to go through and file for objections and suggestions to the panchayat.
Panchayat Adv Prasad Shahapurkar, who was also present, further explained the people how important it is to have the coastal management zone and why people need to study the plan.
The residents of Mandrem than demanded that in order to have a clear picture of the Coastal Zone Management Plan, there is a need to have public hearing in each taluka differently. Having a combine hearing for South and North Goa at a time, will not help the commonman to understand the plan.
Gram sabha resolved that the Junas and Ashwe are identified as turtle nesting zones. It was decided to write to the authority to identity only one place as turtle nesting zones by providing required proofs and information of the locals of these areas.
