PONDA: For many years, people have been demanding that the old trees posing danger to commuters along the road at Kavlem be cut immediately. With the recent tragic death of Usgao local in a tree crash at Vasco, the issue has turned out to be serious one.
Raising their concerns over the huge old trees posing danger to commuters, Ponda locals say it is risky to walk or pass below such trees, with some leaning on electricity wires at Kavlem. The parents fear that these old trees along the roadside pose danger to those commuting along the road.
Milind Madgut, a resident of Ponda and a former college principal said the government should take urgent steps to cut such trees leaning on electricity wires and on houses.
Madgut said recently a tree fell on a rider at Vasco which resulted in his death. A few days ago, another rider had a lucky escape at Priol as he just passed before an electricity pole fell on the road.
He called upon the government to take urgent steps to cut such dangerous trees immediately before it claims more lives.
Several incidents of trees getting uprooted have been attended by the Ponda Fire Station.
Kavlem sarpanch Rajesh Kavlekar said the objections from landowners are posing obstacles in cutting such trees, which need to be addressed by government.
