CO urged to get dangerous trees cleared before Saptah

VASCO: Expressing fear that the old trees could collapse any moment, Mormugao councillor Krishna alias Daji Salkar in a memorandum submitted to the chief officer has urged him to send officials from disaster management committee to inspect and clear the dangerous trees along the Swatantra Path before the Saptah.
Salkar said two years ago he had informed the concerned authorities about the dangerous trees and around 50 such old trees were cleared.
He mentioned that the Vasco Saptah is just few weeks away and thousands will throng Swatantra Path. To avoid any further untoward incident, the authorities should act immediately.
NCP leader Jose Philip D’Souza said it is the duty of the government authorities, councillors, mamlatdars and disaster management committee to ensure people’s safety.
“I feel there is a need to immediately inspect the roads where such old trees pose danger and the same should be removed immediately. If there is another fatal accident, then the government authorities will be blamed for the same. People’s safety should be accorded topmost priority,” D’Souza added.
