PORIEM: The Confederation of All India Rail Users Association, Goa has demanded the stoppage of Ernakulam-Pune express train at Tivim railway station in North-Goa.
In a memorandum addressed to Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnav, the Confederation of All India Rail Users Association (CAIRUA), Goa has requested the minister for a stoppage of Ernakulam-Pune (via Panvel) at Tivim railway station.
The memorandum states that there are no direct rail stoppage from North Goa to Pune and thousands of commuters of this region are forced to travel from Margao railway station thereby causing significant inconvenience, increased travel time and higher costs for thousands of passengers. Therefore, the stoppage of this train (22149-22150) at Tivim will benefit several students, tourists, employees, business class to commute easily in both directions.
It is also mentioned in the memorandum that during peak season, the bus ticket fares are exorbitant and beyond the reach of ordinary commuters and students. Recently, the similar memorandum was submitted to Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade.
Speaking to O Heraldo, the president of CAIRUA, KJ Joy has informed that, on Friday Rajya Sabha MP Tanavade raised this issue in the Upper House. Speaking further, Joy informed that this demand is pending since 2015, although several representations were submitted to concerned authorities from time to time.
