PANJIM: Congress on Sunday gave a call for a “United Opposition” to build a strong front to take head-on the BJP-led government and to expose their misdeeds and failures, during the upcoming month-long State Legislative Assembly session, beginning from July 11.
The Congress party, which is looking forward to United opposition inside and outside the State Assembly, is all set to corner the government on major issues including the sorry state of financial affairs, job recruitment scam, land grab, inflation, deteriorating law and order situation, non-release of benefits under social welfare schemes, failure to remove off-shore casinos, among others.
Deputy Legislative Party leader Sankalp Amonkar, Congress Working President Yuri Alemao, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa and Santa Cruz MLA Rodolfo Fernandes on Sunday addressed a joint press conference at the Congress House in Panjim.
Amonkar said that the party has already approached independent MLAs and legislators from other like-minded parties to put in a united fight in the House. “We have started individual consultation with the MLAs. Soon we will hold a joint meeting and discuss strategy,” Amonkar said adding, “We are looking for United Opposition inside and outside Assembly to take up people centric issues.”
