PANJIM: The Congress Party AICC Secretary and Goa desk in-charge P Sudhakar Reddy today said the party was confident of form the government at the Centre again and overcome all difficulties it is facing now.
“We will come out of the economic crisis in the country…we will win the hearts of the people of India and form the government again,” he told reporters.
Reacting to Narendra Modi’s appointment as BJP’s election campaign chief for 2014 Lok Sabha election, he dismissed him as a threat to the UPA, pointing out that his past has still not been forgotten by countrymen.
At a press conference in the party head office, Reddy said the party is not bothered as to who is heading BJP campaign committee or who would be projected as PM candidate.
“We are not bothered. Our party has its own wisdom,” he told Herald, adding, “People are best judges, they know…Ram Mandir, Godhra riots are still not forgotten by the people. People will reply (in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections).”
Reacting to BJP national spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain’s remark that Congress is afraid of Modi; the congress leader said the latter has a strong base.
“Why should Congress be afraid of a person who disregards his elders? He can only give emotional slogans for claps. Even 100 Modis cannot shake the Congress which has a historical past…our leaders have sacrificed their lives for the country,” he said, referring to BJP patriarch L K Advani’s absence and the fact that BJP took a decision on Modi’s elevation in his absence.
He however clarified the Congress does not propose to interfere in the internal affairs of BJP.
To another comment made by Hussain that Modi formed government in Gujarat three times in a row, Reddy alleged that there were many undeveloped sections in the state. He claimed Gujarat was developed much before Modi’s regime.
“Gujarat has hard working people…” he said. Quoting National Sample Survey, the senior congress leader said, “Wages, employment, economic and in the rural front, the state is lagging behind. There is acute water shortage, farming is hit.” “He (Modi) is a chief minister for multi-national companies and not of common people.”
Commenting on the past NDA regime, he said the then (NDA) government was filled with scams. He said BJP should be nicknamed as ‘Bharat ka Jhoota Party’ (the liar party of India) also as it is inducting those leaders who are facing criminal charges and out on bail like Amit Shah, Bhangaru Laxman, and others.
Reddy is in Goa to address block presidents meeting scheduled on Monday to strengthen the organization, review the organizational structure and other aspects of the party.
