Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) secretary Sunil Kawthankar, in a complaint before Director General of Police K K Vyas, has demanded immediate filing of first information report (FIR) and the arrest of the duo, who had allegedly threatened GRES worker Shabi Pednekar and his family of dire consequences if he continues to be part of the strike against the government.
Speaking to media persons, Kawthankar said that Pednekar has already filed a police complaint before Panjim police, which is yet to be registered. “I have requested DGP to immediately intervene into the matter and order registering an offence against Sawant and Dhond,” he said.
Kawthankar said that it is very sad to see that senior leaders of the government are indulging in intimidation techniques and threatening poor people and their families, who are protesting for rightful justice.
The Congress leader has assured to provide security to the protesting workers if required. Over hundreds of workers employed under GRES are on hunger strike since December 1, demanding regularization of their service and protesting against the ill-treatment meted out to them by the society.
The workers have set a deadline of Saturday for their long-pending demands to be fulfilled, failing which a mass indefinite hunger strike would be launched. The GRES has asked its employees to join duty within the next 24 hours, as the public is suffering.
