Says BJP govt has committed fraud on the Constitution, should step down

MARGAO: Asserting that the BJP-led government should tender its resignation for committing fraud on the Constitution, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik on Tuesday said the BJP has no moral authority to stay in power after their own MLA Glenn Ticlo and another MLA of the Goa Vikas Party Caitu Silva are on the verge of formally getting disqualified.
The MP has disclosed plans to take up with the Union Home Minister and Minster for External Affairs the issue of thousands of common Goans who have acquired Portuguese citizenship and find a solution to the imbroglio.
The Rajya Sabha MP and CLP spokesman Reginaldo Lourenco in a joint press conference demanded that the BJP, which is a creation of RSS, and which called itself patriotic outfit, should suo moto ask Glen Ticlo to quit the Assembly, adding the leadership of the Goa Vikas Party too should show the door to the Benaulim MLA.
“The BJP has made the Goa Assembly unholy by embracing two foreign nationals and taking them into their fold to form a government”, he said, while promising to raise the issue in the Rajya Sabha at the earliest available opportunity.
Both Naik and Lourenco said the Governor should in exercise of his powers under section 54(2) should send a message to the House whether any Portuguese national is presently a sitting member of the House. But when questioned whether the Congress party would make a petition to the governor in this respect, he said the CLP would discuss the matter in detail, but hastened to add that the reply of the Speaker of the House would be an interesting development.
“The two MLAs have violated the oath taken by them before the Returning Officer and while filing the nomination, and also violated the Constitution by lying during the oath by stating they would uphold the sovereignty”, they said.
While calling for a solution to the problem as far as ordinary Goans are concerned from a humanitarian point of view, the duo said both Glen and Caitu should have examined the legality before deciding
to contest the elections as the issue has been under discussion for quite sometime in Goa.
