PANJIM: Congress party has decided to hold protest march on Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) office at Saligao for allowing coal handling activities to continue at Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) despite opposition from locals.
GSPCB on Thursday withdrew the show-cause notices issued to South West Port Limited (SWPL) and Adani Ports Limited for causing pollution thereby allowing them to continue coal handling activities.
The Congress party along with hundreds of citizens from Vasco and other parts held silent rally against coal pollution in the town demanding closure of coal handling in the interest of people.
Addressing media persons, Mahila Congress committee President Pratima Coutinho said that the party strongly condemns GSPCB for withdrawing the notice and for working against people and in the interest of the coal handling units.
She said that party would soon march onto GSPCB office protesting against its decision.
Coutinho also questioned Mormugao BJP MLA and Urban Development Minister Milind Naik for his silence over the entire issue.
