MARGAO: The Mahila Congress on Wednesday protested at Margao against nationalization of rivers. The Congress burnt an effigy of Chief Minister Mahohar Parrikar. However, a Congress woman holding a banner on the Mhadei issue stole the thunder after which the Mahila Congress apologised for the same.
The Mahila Congress alleged that Parrikar and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari are out to sell Goa.
The Mahila Congress President Pratima Coutinho said, “There is no word spoken on how the people and the fishermen community will benefit from the nationalisation of rivers.”
The Mahila Congress also said that dredging would kill marine life which in turn would cause fish famine in Goa. “If Kerala could get its rivers removed from the nationalization project, why not Goa?” questioned the Mahila Congress.
