Congress accuses BJP of murdering democracy

PANJIM: The opposition Congress on Wednesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of murdering democracy and said that it was the principle opposition party which has been fighting against the BJP after it came to power in 2014.

Addressing a press conference, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar said, “After BJP came to power in 2014, Congress is fighting against murder of democracy by BJP by encouraging defections. Bharat Jodo Yatra was for spreading love and unity of India and Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra is to empower youth, women, farmers, marginalised sector, OBC, SC and ST.”

Patkar claimed that the BJP is rattled with the intelligence reports which show that Congress is winning in South Goa while is having 50:50 chance in North Goa.

“We are confident that we will win North as well,” Patkar said.

He alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is indulging in violation of code of conduct.

“Once election code of conduct comes into force, government cannot do any promotional events like Viksit Bharat campaign. BJP scarfs and caps cannot be used in government functions. Election Commission must stop this or we will go to court,” Aldona MLA Advocate Carlos Ferreira said.

Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao said, “It was the Congress Government which brought various legislations to empower women. We have always given opportunities to women. India’s first president was nominated by Congress.”
