Congress blamed for delay in ‘liberation’ of Mayem

MAYEM: Stating that Mayem villagers had to struggle hard to liberate Mayem village from the Portuguese, Union Tourism Minister Shripad Naik said the Congress party in Goa is responsible for the delay in liberating Mayem village, as they were hands-in-gloves with the nominees of the Portuguese government.

“Victory of Mayem could be accredited to the bravery of freedom fighters and martyrs too, whom I respect very much,” said Naik while addressing the Mayem villagers at a felicitation function of freedom fighters organised by Mayem Bhuvimochan Nagarik Kruti Samiti at Adinath Mutt hall.
“Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made successful efforts to solve the custodian issue, due to which it was possible to free Mayem village from Portuguese rule,” said Naik.
Deputy Speaker Anant Shet said this is a golden movement of joy and celebration as it is witnessing long-pending dream of Mayem villagers to liberate their land on which they live since generations from the hold of Portuguese government.
Freedom fighter Prabhakar Sinari said there are still some possibilities of a few people attempting to create hurdles for this development and called upon MBNKS members to carry out their works with vigil.
Freedom fighter Nagesh Karamali demanded that the procedure should be officially brought to an end by appointing a special collector in Mayem village. He also called upon people to make efforts to recover money from the Portuguese nominee which has been handed over to them by some ministers from the Congress party.
He also demanded that the new act made for liberation of Mayem village be included in the 9th schedule of the Constitution to protect it.
On the occasion, all freedom fighters present were felicitated by Shripad Naik and Anant Shet.
Mayem Sarpanch Veena Chodankar, ZP member Meghana Yende, panchayat members, freedom fighters Prabhakar Sinari, Nagesh Karmali, Prabhakar Yende, Chandrakant Pednekar, Shyam Kalangutkar, Vasanti Naik, Chandrakant Goltekar and Gajanana Naik were among others who were present on the occasion.
