VASCO: The Congress alleged that about 60 vehicles from Delhi with non-Goan drivers are operating as taxis from a counter at the Dabolim Airport.
The Congress leader pointed out that the taxi counter at Dabolim Airport was earlier operated by Goan taxi operators who were later removed and the counter allotted to the Delhi-based party.
In the past, about 150 Goa-based taxis were operating from the same counter and they were removed about a month ago and have now been replaced by 60-odd taxis all having Delhi registration numbers which have now been re-registered in the State with Goa registration numbers.
Though there are 60 taxis, the number of drivers are doubled i.e. 120 non Goan drivers, who speak only Hindi and have no taxi badges. These taxis do not have digital meters, which the State government has mandatory.
The Congress has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to investigate into the matter and ensure that 150 Goa-based taxis with drivers from across the State are allowed to operate the said counter.
