PANJIM: The opposition has demanded that Minister Govind Gaude must resign or should be sacked for wastage of 241 metric tonnes of toor dal and sugar procured during his tenure as the Minister for Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) chief spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar charged that toor dal was deliberately wasted and damaged to facilitate crony capitalists to make money by importing toor dal.
Panjikar said, “Gaude, who was the Minister for Civil Supplies when toor dal was procured in April 2020 cannot shirk his responsibility and should resign failing which he be sacked from the Cabinet by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.”
Panjikar also demanded to know why the toor dal was not disposed of to the bidder last year following the auction and why it was further allowed to be infected by pests and damaged in the godowns.
Meanwhile, the last date to submit fresh bids invited by the Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department to dispose of damaged toor dal is Tuesday, August 16 till 3 pm. The bids will be later opened at 4 pm on the same day.
