PANJIM: Slamming the State government for faulty policies and inflation, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) expressed concern for students urging Goa Governor Mridula Sinha to ensure the government bears the entire educational and traveling expenses of students and rolls back school timings.
“It is a matter of grave concern to note that our economy and the economic activity in the State have been made to wither and weaken owing to faulty and careless policies, programs and actions of the government. This has led to serious repercussions and consequences taking a toll on students and parents,” says a memorandum by NSUI in charge Janardhan Bhandari.
Citing inflation and increasing unemployment, NSUI stated that it is imperative that the government provide respite to students, and more importantly to parents, by taking over the educational expenses of fees and other educational needs of the students.
Addressing a press conference after submitting the memorandum to the Governor, Bhandari, who was joined by Congress spokesperson Yatish Naik and others, said the government should formulate a policy to take over the travelling expenses of students.
On the school timing, the party argued that is inconvenient to students and parents and hence it is necessary to rethink to revert to the 8am to 1pm timing which is based on scientific appreciation of facts like weather conditions.
“The present school timings even extend after 2pm. This is causing a lot of hardships to students and parents. We want the government to seriously look into the matter and revert the timing back to 1pm,” Naik said.
He pointed out to massive expenses on the construction of Miramar-Dona Paula road stretch, claiming, that money could have been used for improving the education system.
