Congress has demanded that Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar make public the expenditure incurred by the department on the delegation that visited the United States of America (USA) for the road show promoting Goa tourism.
Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar on Thursday alleged that the government delegation to USA included the Tourism Minister’s wife, daughter, brother and sister-in-law.
“We demand that the Minister through documentary evidence make public the expenditure of the tour and the amount spent on each member. We also want the event management company to disclose its financial statement,” he demanded.
Congress MLA Dayanand Sopte claimed that the government money spent on tourism promotion in USA is useless as tourist footfalls from the country amount to not even two percent annually.
He pointed out that the tourist arrivals from USA from 2012 to 2014 stood at 1.9 per cent annually, while it crossed 2.3 percent in 2015, but dropped to 1 percent in 2016. “What kind of promotion is this?” he questioned.
