PANJIM: Congress has expressed shock and dismay at the raid carried out by Income Tax Officials at St. Francis Xavier Church, Velim.
“We are very much hurt and demand that IT officials not only desist from such actions but verify their facts before even daring to indulge in such actions,” said GPCC General Secretary Altinho Gomes.
Gomes was expressing his party’s heartfelt sympathies with Parish Priest Fr Romano Gonsalves.
Gomes further said that “Fr Gonsalves is a victim of malicious, mischievous campaign by vested interests supported by non-secular parties who have been indulging in spreading false rumours about religious institutions such as the Church on one hand while on the other hand have been trying to woo the minorities.”
Congress Party had a few days back welcomed the Church’s initiative of spelling out its vision for the next Government through the Diocesan Centre for Social Justice and Peace.
It has welcomed the involvement of church, temple, mosque and other religious institutions in the society and bettering it through social engagements.
