PANJIM: The Congress party has ‘offered’ Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar the post of the party’s campaign manager due to the alleged threats sent to Congress party workers during the election campaigning across the state.
GPCC President John Fernandes has attributed it to BJP’s anxiety, anticipating a defeat at these Lok Sabha polls.
“He (Parrikar) should be our campaign manager. The more he pressures, it will be in our favour. I feel the BJP has conceded their defeat,” he said.
Fernandes was referring to police complaints filed against two Congress workers at Vasco police station on Monday. He said on inquiry with the station in-charge, he was told the action taken was based on CM’s directions.
In another incident, the former MP alleged that Sanguem MLA Subhash Faldesai has threatened the Congress against holding rallies in his constituency. “We are holding a meeting in Sanguem Tuesday evening. I will address it,” he challenged. The party has filed complaints to Deputy Inspector General of Police demanding action.
Confident that his party will clinch victory in both the seats, Fernandes said people in Goa are living in fear over the failure of law and order and intimidation tactics adopted by BJP.
He also doubted the integrity of Chief Electoral Officer Keshav Chandra and Joint Election Commissioner Narayan Navti for their alleged close proximity to the BJP. The party has been accusing the Chief Election office Goa for rejecting complaints filed against BJP leaders despite clear violation of the model code of conduct by them. The party will contest the decision of turning down its radio jingle on illegal mining, to ECI.
