PANJIM: Congress on Saturday, on the fourth anniversary of the Narendra Modi-led government, said the government has failed to address major issues promised in its election manifesto. The party said that the four years of BJP rule have been a saga of failures, U- turns, social discrimination and torture of Dalits.
Addressing the media, GPCC spokesperson Ramakant Khalap said, “The BJP had promised two crore jobs every year, only created 4.16 lakh jobs in 2016-17. Also, demonetisation led to a loss of 15 lakh jobs. The government is fooling the people by showing an independent study of the EFPO and claiming that 70 lakh people are now added to the formal work force. This is another jumla.”
He said, “The GDP growth during this government’s tenure is at a four-year low despite new methods of calculation. Under the Modi government, the growth in India’s revenue from exports is zero. Also India’s exports are plunging and diminishing India’s trade competitiveness.”
He further said that NPAs of banks rose by 230 per cent while the industrial growth rate came down sharply from 7.4 per cent (2016) to 4.4% (in 2018), and that petrol and diesel prices are at an all time high.
“This government has failed as over 23,000 cases of fraud have been reported in the past five years. Also, corruption scams have marred the landscape of the Modi government and BJP-ruled states. India’s biggest defence deal of 36 Rafale aircraft is marred by huge defence scam,” he added.
Khalap said that BJP’s anti-Dalit and anti-Adivasi mindset is responsible for dilution is SC-ST Act while claiming that under BJP’s watch, a Dalit suffers an atrocity every 12 minutes.
“In the past 48 months, there have been 2947 ceasefire violations by Pakistan at LoC and IB as compared to 563 ceasefire violations during 48 months of Congress government,” Khalap said.
