PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Saturday said it was exploring the possibility of filling a petition in the high court over the constitutional crisis due to the prolonged absence of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who is undergoing treatment in the US.
Addressing the media, GPCC spokesperson Ramakant Khalap said, “There is a constitutional breakdown in the State. Governor is not doing anything, Prime Minister is not speaking and what BJP National president Amit Shah will speak tomorrow (Sunday), we do not know. In this situation we expect the High Court to take suo moto cognisance of the situation.”
He added, “Simultaneously, we are also exploring the possibility of filing a petition in the high court over the absence of the Chief Minister for a long time.”
He further said that through the petition the judiciary would be requested to take note of the prevailing constitutional crisis in Goa, failure of the Governor to act, Assembly in limbo and total failure of governance of any nature.
“The State government was installed against the wishes of the people as the Congress was the single largest party in the 2017 Assembly polls,” he added.
