According to Amonkar, the BJP leaders have obtained permission to hold the melava on the open space behind Sada sub-jail by misusing their powers. He said that the area falls under the restricted area, due to the existence of vital installations, including a jail and oil tanks, as such no permission can be granted for holding a melava there.
Amonkar was interacting with reporters after kick start of his door to election campaign in Mormugao on Sunday.
“I feel that BJP has been setting wrong examples. Firstly, the BJP candidate for Mormugao Milind Naik has identified open space just behind the Sada Sub Jail to hold a BJP Melava which as per law cannot be permitted. Similarly, I am also surprised that government officials have issued permission for the same,” he said.
Amonkar warned that a public meeting near a jail would not only disturb the peace in the jail, but might also create law and order problems. “I feel that the authorities should take into consideration these possibilities and revoke the permission for holding melava at that venue,” he suggested.
Slamming the BJP for allegedly forcing citizens to attend their rally, Amonkar said, “recently we all saw how a BJP minister was forcing and threatening people to attend Vijay Sankalp rally in his constituency. This same tactic has been used by the Mormugao BJP leader.” He said that people are upset with the BJP and they would give proper reply to the party in the ensuing assembly polls.
Commenting on the door-to-door campaigning, he said, “Today along with the door to door campaigning, we are also exposing the BJP government by distributing charge sheet prepared by us against the party’s series of U-turns.”
“The BJP failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people. Out of hosts of promises made in the 2012 elections, the party could not fulfill even 20 percent of the promises, which shows that BJP failed to deliver in last five years,” he said.
